What is a test fixture?

In order to be able to guarantee the optimum in safety and functionality during the production of assemblies, tests by means of test fixtures are an absolute must! Whereas in the past the contacting of the assemblies to be tested was done by means of plug connectors, nowadays in most cases individual wirings (small plugs) are used for this purpose. However, this requires special adaptation devices.

A test fixture contacts the DUT by means of spring-loaded contact pins on the contact surfaces provided for this purpose, the so-called test pads. Test or test pads must therefore be present on the PCB to be tested.

How is a test fixture constructed?

A test fixture consists of a stable frame into which the needle carrier plate is inserted. The alignment of the needles on the needle carrier plate – also known as the needle bed adapter – is determined specifically for the specimen. The finished adapter then requires no further adjustments and can be quickly replaced at any time. Attached to the needle carrier plate is the interface, to which in turn a test system can be connected. The hold-down plate, which matches the needle carrier plate, is attached to the pressure frame with various height-adjustable hold-downs.

With our in-house CNC milling machine, we can craft needle carrier plates with high precision. The contact pins including sleeves are pressed in with high precision by the CNC-controlled press-in device.
